Hong Kong Translation Society Chen Hsong Group Scholarships

Introduction:
The Hong Kong Translation Society Scholarships are awarded by the Hong Kong Translation Society with the purpose of recognizing outstanding academic achievement by students of translation in tertiary institutions in Hong Kong and of promoting translation as a discipline in such institutions. From Year 2005/06 to Year 2007/08, the Hong Kong Translation Society Scholarships are donated by:

Provision of Award:
Six scholarships (HKD5,000 each) will be offered each year. Two nominations are invited from each UGC-funded tertiary institution offering a full-time undergraduate translation degree programme in Hong Kong. Nominees shall be final-year students of the current academic year who have achieved outstanding academic results, especially in translation, in their previous years of study. One scholarship shall be awarded to one of the two nominees from each institution. The awards panel reserves the right not to award and its decision shall be final.

Interview and Award-giving Ceremony:
All nominees will be invited to attend a selection interview. The six winners will be invited to an award-giving ceremony in due course.

Introduction:
The Hong Kong Translation Society Translation Research Scholarship is awarded by the Hong Kong Translation Society under the auspices of Lion & Globe Educational Trust (獅球教育基金會), with the purpose of recognizing outstanding achievement in translation research and promoting translation studies as a discipline in Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan and the Mainland of China.
Provision of Award:
One scholarship of HKD10,000 will be offered each year from 2004/05 to 2006/07. Persons registered with a full-time or part-time postgraduate programme offered by a tertiary institution in Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan or the Mainland of China and researching on a translation-related topic are eligible to apply. (Persons who are still a graduand but not yet a graduate by the time they submit their application are still eligible.) Applicants shall submit one soft copy and three hard copies of their research paper of a length not exceeding 20,000 words in either Chinese or English on a translation-related topic, for instance, pure or applied translation theory, translation criticism, translation teaching, machine-aided translation, specialized translation, the translation profession, quantitative survey, corpus development (translation of a text into another language is not eligible). Translated texts for illustration can be written in languages other than Chinese or English. References, supervision sought and/or any sources quoted must be duly acknowledged. All papers shall follow the style guidelines of Translation Quarterly, referred journal published by the Hong Kong Translation Society (available at http://www.hkts.org.hk/cgi-bin/guidelines.pl). All submissions must be accompanied by the recommendation of one referee. One scholarship will be given to the winning paper irrespective of the number of co-researchers. The award panel reserves the right not to award or to grant the award to more than one paper and its decision shall be final. Award-winning papers and quality papers as adjudicated by the award panel may be considered for publication in Translation Quarterly.
